Jasper Depraetere

Jasper Depraetere (b. 2000) is the municipal carillonist of Mol and deputy city carillonist of Lier, Belgium. He teaches carillon, harmony, and chamber music at the Royal Carillon School "Jef Denyn" in Mechelen (Belgium).

Jasper discovered the carillon at age nine, studying under Koen Van Assche at the Podium Academy in Lier (Belgium). He furthered his education in bass guitar and piano at the Municipal Academy for Music, Word, and Dance in Lier. At thirteen, he joined the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, graduating with high distinction in 2018. Jasper earned master’s degrees in carillon and music education (2023) and chamber music (2024) at LUCA School of Arts, both with the highest honors.

A prizewinner in multiple competitions, Jasper received second prize and the audience award at the prestigious Queen Fabiola International Carillon Competition in 2019. He was also intendant and coordinator for the 2024 edition. Jasper has performed at festivals across Europe and the United States, including in Barcelona, Chicago, Vilnius, Berlin, Rotterdam, and Mechelen.

Known for his dynamic style, Jasper frequently collaborates with musicians, dancers, and ensembles, bridging genres and art forms. His research project, Carillon in 8 Colours, explores innovative perspectives on the instrument. Through his performances and teaching, Jasper strives to bring the bells to life with a varied repertoire and a storytelling approach.
