Luc Rombouts

Luc Rombouts teaches campanology at the Royal Carillon School and supervises final examinations. At the Leuven department he teaches carillon playing.

Luc is city carillonneur of Tienen, university carillonneur of Leuven and carillonneur of Park Abbey. He is a curator of Beiaardcultuur Leuven. Together with his colleague Twan Bearda he forms the four-handed carillon duo The Bells' Angels. Luc performed in several European countries, in the USA and in Canada.

Through lectures and publications, Luc brings the general public into contact with carillon culture. He has written several books on carillon culture, including the carillon history Zingend Brons (Singing Bronze), which received several awards. He coordinated the candidacy dossier that led in 2014 to the recognition by UNESCO of the carillon culture in Belgium as an exemplary practice in dealing with intangible cultural heritage.

He is chairman of the Belgian Carillon Heritage Committee, director of the Singing Bronze Foundation (Asten) and co-founder of the International Network of War Memorial and Peace Carillons. In 2016 Luc received his PhD from Utrecht University with a dissertation on the origin of the carillon. In 2017 Luc received the Jhr. Jacob van Eyck Oeuvre Prize from the Utrecht Bellringers Guild for his achievements in carillon culture.
