Carillon Box: hear, see, and feel carillon culture up close

Every day, the sounds of the carillon ring out in Mechelen. But how exactly does a carillon work? You can find out in the Sinte-Mette Garden until November 10. There, you will find the BeiaardBox, an interactive installation that lets you hear, see, and feel the carillon. It is a fun way for the whole family to learn about our carillon tradition. The BeiaardBox is free and open to everyone.

The BeiaardBox is part of the European project Living Heritage Journeys. This project explores how intangible heritage and sustainable tourism can reinforce one another. The Flemish pilot project focusing on carillon culture is a collaboration between the Werkplaats Immaterieel Erfgoed, Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, local heritage organizations, the tourism offices of Leuven, Grimbergen, and Mechelen, several passionate carillonneurs, and the creative studio Fugzia.

The installation has previously been displayed in Leuven and Grimbergen. Once the pilot project concludes, the BeiaardBox will find a permanent home at the Royal Carillon School, ensuring that this unique experience remains accessible to visitors in the future.
